Edible Explorations of the Colorado Plateau

Part of our bioblitz day, this session was led by April Bojorquez, co-founder of desert ArtLAB. This interdisciplinary initiative considers how “native ecology can inform identity, progress, equality and the sustainability of our desert culture and communities.” (http://www.desertartlab.com)

In this session Mapping Meaning participants discussed the history of native ecologies and then went on an exploration to identify and collect edible plants of the Colorado Plateau. This culminated with a culinary experience connecting participants to food practices that exist outside of industrial agricultural systems and offering another lens for how we approach social and environmental ecologies.
